Adobe Photoshop 3

Adobe Photoshop 3.0 (code named "Tiger Mountain") is the third major version of Photoshop, first released by Adobe Systems for Macintosh in September 1994. Versions for Windows, IRIX, and Solaris followed in November 1994.[1]

Photoshop 3.0 was the first version to introduce layers, considered to be one of its most important new features, though Fauve Matisse had already debuted the concept a year earlier.[2][3]

Version 3.0 also introduced tabbed palettes, which helped to conserve workspace real estate. This would later become a factor in Adobe's lawsuit against Macromedia for its use of tabbed palettes in Macromedia Flash.[4]
